Careers information for staff

Aim – To develop students’ knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to life in modern British Society

Millfield believes that every student should have the opportunity to explore the world of work in modern British society while at school. We aim to provide students with the opportunities to explore employability skills and their personal development to increase their opportunities once leaving school. We want our students to be able to make informed choices about their next steps and provide them with information about all options available to them.

The careers curriculum looks to challenge stereotypical views and attitudes, and promote equal opportunities. It helps students to overcome barriers to progress that they may face in the future, and provides students with guidance and up to date information relating the transitions at the end of KS4.

Our high-quality provision is working to towards achieving the “Quality in Careers” standard. We are currently achieving 100% in all Gatsby benchmarks, ensuring our careers provision is of the highest quality.

The Gatsby Benchmarks are:

1. A stable careers programme
2. Learning from career and labour market information
3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
5. Encounters with employers and employees
6. Experiences of workplaces
7. Encounters with further and higher education
8. Personal guidance
