Well-being and Mental Health

It’s important to take care of our mental health. Feelings of sadness, loneliness and anxiety can have a profoundly negative effect on young people; however you do not have to struggle with difficult feelings alone – there are many resources available to help you! The ones which we recommend are listed on this page.

Your Wellbeing Matters at Millfield!

At Millfield Science and Performing Arts College, we are committed to fostering a safe, caring, and happy community where every student feels supported and empowered to navigate the challenges of their future with confidence. Your emotional health and wellbeing are a top priority for us, and we take a whole-school approach to ensure that help is available without any judgement or stigma.

We understand that sometimes things can feel overwhelming, and we want you to know that you are not alone. Our dedicated pastoral team is here to listen and support you, alongside specific staff members who have completed Mental Health Aware training. We also work closely with the NHS SHINE team of mental health nurses to provide targeted support for students who need it. Additionally, our wonderful Family Liaison Officer and experienced Life Coach are available to offer guidance and assistance to both students and their families.

We are incredibly proud to have achieved the prestigious Wellbeing Award for Schools (Optimus Education), which recognises our commitment to creating a positive and supportive environment for all.

We believe that being active and involved contributes significantly to positive wellbeing. That’s why we encourage all our students to explore our wide range of extracurricular activities, providing opportunities to discover new passions, build friendships, and develop a strong sense of purpose and belonging within our school community.

Our commitment extends beyond staff support. We empower our students to look out for each other through our trained Student Wellbeing Ambassadors, who play a vital role in promoting positive mental health messages and offering peer support.

We also recognise the crucial role parents play in supporting their child’s wellbeing. We are committed to providing you with information and resources to help you understand and support your child’s emotional health.

Your wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at Millfield. Please know that support is always available – don’t hesitate to reach out.

Wellbeing Ambassadors

At Millfield, we are incredibly proud of our dedicated team of Student Wellbeing Ambassadors. These proactive students have been specially trained by the organisation, One Goal, to become peer supporters and positive role models within our school community. One Goal equips young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to champion mental health awareness and reduce stigma amongst their peers. Our Wellbeing Ambassadors play a vital role in promoting positive wellbeing messages through campaigns, attending important wellbeing meetings and being a friendly ear for fellow students who might be struggling. They are a crucial link in fostering a caring and understanding school environment, ensuring that all students feel empowered to seek help and support each other.
