Duke of Edinburgh
Millfield Science & Performing Arts College currently offers the Duke of Edinburgh Award at Bronze and Silver level. This prestigious qualification is offered to Years 9 and 10. The students are trained for at least 10 weeks before they go on their practice and qualifying expeditions.
We are proud to have a well-qualified and enthusiastic staff team; we have three Lancashire County approved instructors, five Lowland Leaders who are all First Aid trained in the outdoors and our own in-house Duke of Edinburgh assessors. We are also fortunate to have additional staff who voluntarily give up their time to support and train students in maps skills, camp craft and tent building.
Bronze and Silver Awards
Students working towards the bronze and silver awards experience expeditions in the Beacon Fell area in Lancashire. They demonstrate their camp craft and tent building skills at Waddecar Scout camp. The Bronze award in Year 9 requires an overnight residential and the Silver award residential is for two nights.

Training
Duke of Edinburgh training is every Tuesday after the school day. Training includes First Aid, campcraft, expedition planning with route cards, the countryside code, eDofE updating and navigation skills such as orientating maps and giving grid references.
