SMSC at Millfield

SMSC is an integral part of our curriculum, and we have implemented the following measures to ensure its effective delivery: 

• Regular Assemblies and Class Discussions: We organize regular assemblies and class discussions to foster self-awareness, emotional well-being, and a deeper understanding of values and beliefs. 
• Enriched Curriculum: Our curriculum incorporates opportunities for cultural exploration, including global learning through geography and history, and exposure to diverse traditions and celebrations through music, dance, physical education, and art. 
• Charitable Work and Fundraising: We encourage social responsibility by providing opportunities for students to engage in charitable work and fundraising events. 
• Robust Safeguarding Practices: We have established strong safeguarding measures to promote student safety, welfare, and respect for their rights. 

The impact of our SMSC education is evident in our students’ enhanced appreciation of ethical and moral issues, including social justice, equality, and human rights. They are well-prepared to participate in and contribute to a multicultural and diverse society, demonstrating excellent social skills through communication, collaboration, and teamwork. SMSC at Millfield is defined by:

• Moral Development: Students’ recognition of right and wrong, application of moral principles, understanding of legal boundaries, and ability to investigate and offer reasoned views on moral and ethical issues. 
• Social Development: Students’ use of social skills in various contexts, participation in different communities, effective conflict resolution, and engagement with British values. 
• Cultural Development: Students’ understanding and appreciation of diverse cultural influences, their recognition of shared values across communities, and their knowledge of Britain’s democratic parliamentary system.
